FairVote is experiencing a surge of interest in its mission, with new resources that position us for significant growth and impact. We are doubling down on our effort to encourage the adoption of RCV in national elections while supporting movements and campaigns in states and cities to do the same locally. With new senior leadership and attention to building a healthy and robust organization with real potential to transform American democracy through RCV and the Fair Representation Act, we are looking for a leader to join our Programs team to build and lead our Partnerships Program.

Summary

FairVote seeks a Director of Strategic Partnerships,  responsible for planning, developing, and executing our external partnership engagement strategy by expanding the national collaborative table of organizations, thought leaders and academics in support of FairVote’s advocacy and policy goals. The Director will also nurture and grow a strong network of state-based and local partner relationships, identifying and supporting opportunities that will elevate FairVote’s national agenda. In addition, the Director will oversee FairVote’s “movement service” initiatives designed to strengthen the capacity of state and local partners. Furthermore, the Director will actively cultivate and manage new partnerships through research, identification, cultivation, and execution and oversee thought leadership activities.  

This position requires the commitment, skills, and ability to develop and lead a team, provide creative and results-oriented direction to build the department to new heights, forge positive internal and external relationships, lead detailed program planning and implementation.  This role works closely with FairVote’s Senior Executive Team (SET) and reports directly to the Executive Vice President (EVP) for Policy and Programs. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Strategy Development and Administration

  • Develop and sustain short-term and long-term strategic plans that grow and extend partnership and program goals and agendas with overall FairVote strategies and initiatives in collaboration with the Senior Executive Team. 
  • Develop and execute a strategic and innovative plan for engaging critical organizational partners in support of the program, service, and capital needs
  • Create and manage cohorts of grass-tops and organizational leaders to drive, inform and advance FV strategies. 
  • Develop and implement a partnership strategy to increase the reach and impact of FairVote's focus areas by developing, managing, and building strategic collaboration between our national reform tables of major constituency groups.
  • Oversee the development of work plans and staff assignments to guide the implementation of FairVote’s initiatives.
  • Assist the Senior Executive Team with the overall management of the department, including strategic planning, coordination of cross-program initiatives, and the identification and cultivation of prospective funders.

Partnership

  • Coordinate the management of ongoing relationships with existing partners and, where relevant, leverage those relationships to more significant collective impact.
  • Develop and oversee the outreach strategies of multiple programmatic working tables organized within key constituency groups
  • Create, expand and maintain FairVote’s national reform table(s)  involving various major constituency groups.
  • Identify opportunities to draw upon partnerships to broaden the array of resources available to FairVote and stakeholders.   
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to structure and execute initiatives, lead analysis and develop and communicate final recommendations for growing partner relationships
  • Develop systems and procedures in support of the identification, engagement, and development of strategic partnerships.
  • Develop and manage strategic partnership engagement events, forums, and educational gatherings in support of FairVote strategic initiatives.
  • Develop and oversee the outreach strategies of multiple programmatic working tables organized within key constituency groups.
  • Create, expand and maintain FairVote’s national reform table(s)  involving various major constituency groups.
  • Oversee our legal team as it leads and supports national legal tables on policy, scholarship, and litigation involving FairVote’s reform priorities.

Program Education, Outreach Events

  • Develop and manage information collection networks.
  • Develop and manage key personnel within a framework of FairVote's partnership strategies.
  • Oversee fellows and our policy team with the intent of increasing appreciation of the value of our reforms in university and thought leadership settings.
  • Educate the staff on new and existing strategic partnerships and opportunities.

Program Evaluation

  • Define and establish measures to evaluate the achievement of program strategy and goals. 
  • Provide timely reporting and analysis about strategic partnerships and partner engagement. 

Leadership

  • Lead and create an environment that fosters positive team culture, team development, and growth.
  • Guide and direct the assigned staff members, contractors, and volunteers to plan and complete the necessary work to support overall program strategies and priorities. 
  • Define individual work goals, expectations, priorities, and measures for success for the Partnership department.

QUALIFICATIONS
 
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field and 7+ years of in-depth practical experience in the program area, or Master's degree in a related field.

  • At least 3 years of experience leading the planning, implementation, and administration of a nonprofit program.

  • Possesses required technical knowledge within assigned program areas.

  • Experience drafting/writing program documentation, contract proposal, and management reports,

  • Ability to interact effectively with members, representatives of other organizations, elected officials, consultants, and all levels of FairVote staff.

  • People management experience is a must.

  • Public speaking experience.

S/he must have the ability to identify and set priorities while building and managing a wide variety of relationships and stakeholders. The candidate must be an intelligent, persuasive, hardworking advocate and ambassador for FairVote.

The work schedule includes some evening and weekend meetings and engagement opportunities, as necessary. Candidates requiring a 9 to 5 fixed schedule will not be a good fit for this position, even as we expect reasonable work hours overall. This is a full-time benefits-eligible position.
Compensation: $125,000.00 - $145,000.00 per year
